Tickets may also be purchased at http://pillsburyhousetheatre.org/
Click the “Purchase Tickets” button and Click the appropriate day you would like to see the play.

About the play:
FIERCE LOVE is a play that was written, directed and performed in the early 90s by a troupe of 3 black gay men (Brian Freeman, Djola Branner, and Eric Gupton) who collectively called themselves the POMO AFRO HOMOS (Postmodern African-American Homosexuals).

During the early 90s the POMO AFRO HOMOS toured the country with FIERCE LOVE to enlighten the masses of the complexities and diversity that exist with in black gay community.

With all of the notoriety FIERCE LOVE received in the theatre world because it was one of the first black and gay theatre pieces of its kind, it also received much reproach from the greater black and performing arts community for the very same reason.

But for that brief moment in the 90s the POMO AFRO HOMOS were around, our stories were told authentically, unequivocally and unapologetically.

For two nights only FIERCE LOVE comes to the TWIN CITIES with a FIERCE vengeance as local director Harry Waters Jr. takes on the courageous task of reviving and adapting the forgotten piece with various gay men from the Twin Cities. The legacy lives ON!

“Black gay men are a marginalized, often overlooked, intentionally underrepresented community, silenced at most points to the voices of many of our straight counterparts. There is seldom room at the table for more than one fetishized and tokenized appearance of black gay men due to the fact that we must always be aware of the voices around us… BUT what does OUR voices sound like and are we able to hear it amongst the throng and cacophony of needs?”

From Don DeBoer.

Hi gang:

I will be hosting salsa and merengue dancing in Loring Park during pride. It would be great if you could all come and use what you’ve learned and maybe learn a new move or two. I will be at the following locations:

Saturday June 26th
2:00 pm – 3:00 pm Power to the People Tent – on the corner of Willow and Grant (same place as last year)
3:00 pm – 4:00 pm NSGRA Tent – Tent #3168, just a bit more east of where they were last year near the volleyball courts and along side the shuffle board court

Sunday June 27th
3:30 pm – 4:30 pm NSGRA Tent

Beginners and seasoned dancers are all included and you don’t need a partner to dance as some of it will be solo (line dancing). It’s FREE – It’s FUN. Be there!!! I could also use a dance partner if any of you are willing.

Support Kandii Matthews and the rest of the Soulacious crew. (Kandii says they are later in the lineup if you want to see just them). Twin Cities Dyke March 2010, Jun 26

Posted: June 20th, 2010 | Author: The Dish | Filed under: Events | Tags: , , , , , | No Comments »

Saturday, June 26, 2010
7:00pm – 10:00pm
Walker Art Center
[facebook event page]

Consent Is Sexy: Dyke March reminds the Twin Cities how much fun a culture of consent can be!

Dyke March is for everyone! You do not need to identify as a dyke to participate and folks will not be policing your identity.

What: The annual Dyke March, led by the Twin Cities Avengers, is one of over 25 marches around the world creating space for queer expression and solidarity concurrent with the more mainstream Twin Cities Pride March. This year’s theme, Consent is Sexy, is a call to promote awareness and an active culture of consent in both queer and ally communities.

Where: The Dyke March will begin at 7pm in front of the Walker Art Center, 1750 Hennepin Ave., Minneapolis, Minnesota 55403. We will circumnavigate Loring Park.

When: 7pm to 9pm, Saturday June 26th 2010.

Who: The Twin Cities Avengers invites all dykes, queers, transfolk, homos, butches, femmes, cross dressers, heterosexuals, and all the people who love them or can relate to them, to participate in the march.

Why: We are facilitating the Dyke March because a community space beyond the mainstream Pride Festival – which trends toward valuing the social norms of consumption, middle-class, whiteness, conforming to gender roles, and nuclear family structures – is needed. The march is a space for building community and making connections with people we might not otherwise meet. The Dyke Marches began nationwide in 1993 in order to bring more visibility to women within the queer movements. Over time, the Twin Cities Avengers have expanded this mission to include ending all forms of oppression.

*The Twin Cities Avengers is an all-inclusive queer direct action group committed to dismantling all forms of oppression.*
