Description of the book group:
The Buddhism book group will read and discuss books on contemporary non-dogmatic Buddhist commentaries and teachings from the traditions of Shambhala, Tibetan, Zen and other Mahayana Buddhism traditions. We shall read books by authors such as Pema Chodron and Thich Nhat Hanh. Other authors and spiritual traditions will be explored as the group evolves. The main theme of the books we read is about the inherent human capacity to wake up and find joy and peace in daily lives. The group is open to people of all faith and belief systems.
Quote:
“Meditation practice isn’t about trying to throw ourselves away and become something better. It’s about befriending who we are already. The ground of practice is you or me or whoever we are right now, just as we are. That’s the ground, that’s what we study, that’s what we come to know with tremendous curiosity and interest.” – Pema Chodron in The Wisdom of No Escape: and the path of loving-kindness.
The first 3 books we shall be reading are:
(1) “Start Where You Are” – by Pema Chodron
(2) “The Wisdom of No Escape” – by Pema Chodron
(3) “The Heart of the Buddha’s Teaching” – by Thich Nhat Hanh
Thank you.
