On Saturday, September 19th, 2009, Intermedia Arts presents the B-Girl Be Block Party, an all-day festival that brings international, national and local girls and women in hip-hop together in Minneapolis for music, dance, live mural painting, film and an art marketplace. This is one day packed with events and opportunities to showcase women’s aesthetic vision and creative leadership in hip-hop.

Building on three years of enormous success and international recognition, Intermedia Arts is proud to present this fourth installment of B-Girl Be: A Celebration of Women in Hip-Hop, a multimedia festival encompassing the four elements of hip-hop: MCing, DJing, breakdancing and graffiti.

The mission of B-Girl Be is to influence and inspire leadership to change the perceptions and roles of women in hip-hop for current and future generations. This beloved Minneapolis event is a place to make connections, build confidence, sharpen skills and gain access to the tools to create music, film, poetry, rap, aerosol art and dance.

The B-Girl Be Block Party features national and international guests, including aerosol artists Motel7 (Capetown) and Toofly (NYC); MC Eternia with Chesney Snow (Canada), DJ Chela (NYC); B-Girls Rokafella (NYC), Aiko (CA), and Venus FlyTrap Crew (IN); who will all perform, present and engage in discussion ciphers and workshops alongside local Twin Cities artists.

Before, during and after the B-Girl Be Block Party, B-Girl Be is proud to present a series of hip-hop dance showcase performances curated by local dancer and choreographer Amy Sackett.

The celebration continues throughout October with Mama Said Knock U Out!, the international visual arts exhibition showcasing 28 female artists from around the world who use their visual voiceto empower, inform and organize. Intermedia Arts Gallery hours are Tuesday-Friday 12-6 PM.
