Twin Cities Black Pride 2009: “Unity is the New Black”

From the Black Pride Planning Committee (unitypridemn@gmail.com).

Greetings Community Members, Friends, Family, Supporters, and Allies,

Thank you for your interest in being on the Twin Cities Black Pride 2009 Mailing List to receive updates on fundraisers, Black Pride weekend events, and other related details.

From now until Black Pride weekend September 11-13, I am committed to mobilizing the community through engaging and interacting with the community in various activities and events to promote unity on both a collective and individual level. Collectively, we unify each other by affirming each others experiences and membership in the community. Individually, we affirm ourselves by unifying all of our identities as LGBT people of color and bridging the gaps between race, sexuality and spirituality. That is the focus of this years theme: “Unity is the New Black.”

Some have seen the emphasis on “black” as being exclusive, but it is important to consider that this emphasis primarily comes from the core members of the committee being of African American heritage. Moreover, in the same way the heterosexual community cannot do justice to all of the specific cultural needs and concerns of the LGBT community, an all black LGBT planning committee cannot do justice to all of the specific cultural needs and concerns of other LGBT communities of color. However, it is our goal to inspire, affirm, and mobilize all LGBT communities beyond race and ethnic background.

Attached is the list of scheduled events and details as of now. They are formatted into pdfs so let me know if you have trouble opening any of the attachments and I will send it in another format.

Also, become a fan of Twin Cities Black Pride 2009 facebook page Click Here. Check frequently as there will be a Twin Cities Black Pride video series and I want to hear ALL of your comments and concerns. Or just give a shout out!

Please send all inquiries about participating in any of our upcoming events and/or fundraisers as individuals, businesses or organizations to unitypridemn@gmail.com.

Again, thank you for your interest in Twin Cities Black Pride 2009 and PLEASE spread the word and circulate widely. Until the next email blast…”Be blessed and be unified: collectively and individually”

One Love,

Earnest Simpkins

I would love to participate but I do not see an attached list. I did however join the facebook page. Please send a list of the events, last year I tried to attend and apparently there was a mix up in communication because there were only 6 people at the event I was at :(

I have posted a couple times since this one with further info about the events.

If you’ve seen the facebook page, you have all the info I have.

I would also recommend contacting them about getting on their mailing list. Email unitypridemn@gmail.com and ask.
