True Colors Bookstore News
From Sally Nixon, a reminder that Ruta Skujins has opened True Colors Bookstore in the old Amazon Bookstore location and it’s still a wonderful place for our community.
A message from Ruta, from True Colors’ latest newsletter:
By now some of you have heard that the store was held up on the afternoon of March 12th, in mid-afternoon. Two men entered the store and pulled a gun on us as Jessie and I were standing behind the counter. Thankfully they didn’t touch us or threaten us physically, apart from pointing the gun at us. Oddly enough, I wasn’t scared – I was angry that something like this could even happen. They took the cash from the drawer, which I couldn’t afford to lose, but what made me furious was that they also took Jessie’s personal laptop from the counter. We’re still waiting to hear if my insurance will cover the laptop. Bottom line, though, is that we are both safe, and it seems as if we were just a random target. However, I think the thieves left some bad energy behind, as ever since the robbery one thing after another has had problems, and they just seem to cascade. My internet was down for almost three days (and I had to close the store for a day to get it fixed), fixing the internet screwed up my router, and fixing the router screwed up my access to the inventory server, etc etc. And of course, working on all of these problems meant that projects I wanted to do, such as sending out this newsletter last week, just didn’t get done. Send good thoughts and blessings this way, please!! And thank you to everyone who’s stopped by or written to express their sympathy.
On a brighter note, we have lots of events coming up, and I hope at least one of them will entice you to the store! I’ll be at Quatrefoil Library to MC an event there on March 29th, and there are lots of other things happening in the community as well, so be sure to keep reading down for more info!
And they do have a loooong list of events, which you can see by visiting their website, or by sending a newsletter subscription request to amazon@amazonbookstorecoop.com.
